By

Step 1

Here is a little guide to show you how to set up a piece of Google AdSense code for your website or blog.

At first you have to log in to your AdSense account!

(my pictures are with Danish language since I live in Denmark, but yours will be in your language!)

Step 2

Chose the fan AdSense Setup (my pictures are in the Danish language, maybe yours will be in English, French, German, Turkish or whatever!). Here you can choose between five different AdSense types.

  • The first type will provide you with text-links, banners or both. You can see different examples right here on HubPages
  • With the second choice you can make a personal search engine for you blog for example. See IMPawards.com to get a feel of how it works. IMPawards is a collection of movieposters, and it has got a minimum of navigation, so the users use the search engine to browse the website a lot.
  • The third opportunity is to put ads in your website’s RSS Feed.
  • The fouth choice is AdSense for parked domains, that are currently not in use.
  • The fifth and last possibility is to make Ads for content used on websites developed for use on mobile phones only.

Step 3

The first choice of the five, is the most used around the Internet. Have a look at some of the websites you normally visit. I’ll bet you a banana that many of them have ads from Google AdSense.

Click on the first link and you will see the page below. Here are to main choices…
With the first choice you can choose between making af Content Relevant box with ads relevant for the text your write at your website. You can also choose only to have banners shown. At last you can choose to make a code that shows both text and banner ads.
With the second choice you can choose to make a subject link. It hits your visitors on a wider level. If you write about dogs, the subjects in the link box can be Dog Food, Dog Training, Dog Races and so on. Your visitor clicks on Dog Races and get the opportunity to visit different websites related to this subject.

Step 4

Lets try to make an AdSense box for our website with text links. You can choose between many different sizes. Whatever fits the design of your website or blog.

Step 5

You can choose from all the RGB WEB colours by typing in the HEX code. Have a look at the VisiBone website if you are i doubt about what I mean! A good advice is to make your ad boxes fit in with your design, and to use text colours making your visitors aware of the text links. You can experiment for at while and see which colours work best for you. You can also replace old AdSense code with new AdSense code.

Step 6

You can also play around with the sizes and the fonts used in your ads.

Step 7

If you have more than one website with AdSense, you can choose to divide your different ads into different channels, to see which website performs best and worst.

Step 8

You can call your different ads by different names, so you can use and re-use them later on. If you do not give them names, the ads will just be named after the date they were made.

Step 9

Click on the “Get Code” button, and you will see the code. Copy [ctrl+c] and Paste [ctrl+v] the code into your *.htm, *.php, *.asp files. If you are the happy owner of a wordpress blog, you can insert the code into your *.php template files. Then the AdSense code choosen will appear automatically in every post or page on you blog. Easy as 123..

Step 10

Below you see a screenshot of the AdSense code we made above. Take notice of the rounded corners of the box and the sweet and modern colours ;o) The AdSense code is posted on my personal blog as a test. Play around and see what types of ads fit best on your blog og website.
